Kinship Care

Kinship Care

SERVICE OVERVIEW

If a child can safely stay in their own family, that’s the best result we can hope for. Our Kinship Care family preservation project helps children remain with their parents or extended family whenever they can in safety and health. Through kinship care, CIF can support permanency by working with a family’s greatest assets – love and commitment.

Kinship care is the most cost effective and permanent solution for vulnerable children. Children in Kinship Care are followed up by our case managers at least once a month to ensure their needs are being met, and to support and encourage the adults looking after them.

What are the benefits of Kinship Care?

Family Bond

The right extended family members already know the children, have a loving bond and desire to look after the child.

Lower Costs

On average, kinship care costs are 50-70% lower than other forms of alternative care.

Community of their own

The wider community already know the family and can provide extra moral and practical support.

Family preservation

Families can stay together and support each other better when they receive some support too.
